  Comic Zero

So, if you're reading this, it likely means you decided to start reading In Wily's Defense from the beginning.

Admirable.

In Wily's Defense was a lot of things to me. It was one of the few stories I ever actually finished, and also one of my favorite projects I ever worked on. It was an odd duck, being what essentially was a fancomic gone wrong. When I first started, I was a complete amateur at spriting, sprite comics, and generally just laying out panels. I had NO idea what I was doing, what I was getting into, and what the comic would lead me to.

If it wasn't for IWD, I'd have never met the people I did to get Fetch Quest started, so trust me when I say that this comic was worth my time and effort.

So, while I'll talk about the actual origins of the comic in the next commentary, I will say that "Comic Zero" was not the first comic I made, it was actually something like the 220th. It was done because of a few fanmails that seemed to question my decisions that seemed to indicate that they didn't quite get that I considered the "Wilyverse" (as I've come to call it) to be completely separate from the Megaman universe.

The "alternate universe" thing was done because I wanted to make my own story, free of the conventions of other Megaman comics (primarilly Bob and George). I wanted to focus more on the Robot Masters, as well, which was the major contributing factor that ultimately led me to have Dr. Wily and Dr. Light switch roles. And, honestly, those Dr. Light sprites I used were excellent for evil.
