EPISODE #0587: The End

FAQ | About IWD | Site Credits | Lexicon -- ABOUT IN WILY'S DEFENSE
Back in May 2003, a friend of mine named Kevin introduced me to Bob and George. At the time, both of us were really big fans of Megaman, though he was a bigger fan than me. He told me about the comic because he thought I might enjoy it.

Before seeing the comic, I foolishly thought that 8-Bit Theater was the only sprite comic ever, not realizing just how many there actually were. After seeing Bob and George and how ridiculously simple it was (and still is), I, who always wanted a chance to make a comic, decided to try my hand at making a sprite comic, myself. I gathered materials, opened up the paint program I still use to this day (Paint Shop Pro 7), and began making comics.

Unfortunately for me, the resulting comics were not In Wily's Defense. I was still connected with my previous community and I made comics about my friends filled with inside jokes that nobody outside of my circle would've ever gotten. The sprites were horrifically edited and look nothing like my present editing style. The special effects were even MORE atrocious then than they are NOW. Not to mention that making comics in an actual four panel format was something I could not do.

So, after about forty of these, I realized these first few comics blew ass. I promptly dumped all the work and effort I put into that, sat down, and began a new comic.

I chose the wider, variable-height format that I use for all the comics I make to this day, as I determined that I liked writing comics with a lot of text. I also decided that I was going to make a Megaman sprite comic, not because Bob and George did it, but because I wanted to take Megaman and do what the Bob and George guy wasn't doing: Tell the story from the Robot Masters' point of view.

Thus began "In Wily's Defense".

The comic is so named because, after I finished the first few comics, I chose to make the comic an "alternate universe" where Dr. Wily was the good guy, since the main focus at the time was on the Robot Masters. Granted, I've strayed from the point of this title since Season 2 started, but that's okay.
